Materials

Yarn: Medium weight (size 4) worsted acrylic — Red Heart Super Saver in Beige and Light Blue Speckle

Hook: Size G / 4.25mm

Extras: Yarn needle, stitch markers, polyester stuffing, safety eyes

Gauge

Finished ice cream cone measures approximately 5 inches tall. Gauge is not critical for this project — just make sure your stitches are tight enough that the stuffing won't show through.

Abbreviations

St = stitch    Ch = chain    Sc = single crochet

Hdc = half double crochet    Slst = slip stitch

This project is worked in continuous rounds. Do not turn at the end of each round — just keep going in the same direction. Use stitch markers or scrap yarn to track the start of each round.

Part 1: The Cone

Using Beige yarn.

Step 1 — Rnd 1: Start with a magic circle (or slipknot circle). Ch 1, then make 6 sc into the circle. Pull the circle closed. (6 sc)

Step 2 — Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch around. (12 sc)

Step 3 — Rnd 3: Work in back loops only (BLO) for this round. Make 1 sc in each back loop around. (12 sc)

Step 4 — Rnds 4–10: Make sure the ridge from Rnd 3 is facing outward — this creates the cone texture! Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 7 rounds. (12 sc each round)

Step 5 — Rnd 11: Work in front loops only (FLO) for this round. *1 sc in next front loop, 2 sc in next front loop; repeat from * around. (18 sc)

Step 6 — Rnd 12: *1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc; repeat from * around. (24 sc)

Step 7 — Rnd 13: Work in back loops only (BLO) for this round. Make 1 sc in each back loop around. (24 sc)

Step 8 — Rnds 14–16: Work 1 sc in each stitch around. On the very last stitch of Rnd 16, work 1 sc + 1 slst. Fasten off and set aside. (24 sc)

Part 2: The Ice Cream Scoop

Using your ice cream color yarn (Light Blue Speckle or your choice!).

Step 1 — Rnd 1: Start with a magic circle. Ch 1, then make 6 sc into the circle. Pull closed. (6 sc)

Step 2 — Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each stitch around. (12 sc)

Step 3 — Rnd 3: *1 sc in next, 2 sc in next; repeat from * around. (18 sc)

Step 4 — Rnd 4: *1 sc, 1 sc, 2 sc; repeat from * around. (24 sc)

Step 5 — Rnds 5–13: Work 1 sc in each stitch around for 9 rounds. (24 sc each round)

Step 6 — Add the face: Place safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, spacing them 5 stitches apart. Using a yarn needle and black yarn, embroider a small V-shape for the mouth on round 12. So cute! 🍦

Part 3: Joining the Cone & Scoop

Step 7 — Rnd 14 (Joining round): Hold the ice cream scoop on top of the cone. Insert your hook into the next sc on the ice cream and into any front loop of the cone at the same time. Work 1 sc through both layers to join them together. Continue joining for the next 18 stitches. Pause here to stuff both the cone and the scoop firmly with polyester stuffing. Then continue joining the remaining stitches with 1 sc through each front loop of the cone. (24 sc)

Step 8 — Rnd 15 (Ruffle edge): Work this round into the joining sc stitches from Rnd 14. *Skip 1, 4 hdc in next, skip 1, 1 sc in next; repeat from * around. End with a slst in the next stitch. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
