Pattern Notes
This granny square is worked in the round without turning. You'll work continuously in the same direction throughout the entire pattern.

Round 1: Create the Tree Top
Using Color A, make a magic circle or slip knot circle. Ch 3 (this counts as your first double crochet stitch). Work 11 dc into the circle. Slip stitch to the top of your ch 3 to join. You now have 12 dc total.
Round 2: Increase the Stitches
Ch 3 (counts as a dc), then dc in the same stitch. Place a marker in the top of this dc—you'll need this later. Work 2 dc in each of the next 11 stitches. Slip stitch to the top of ch 3 to join. You now have 24 dc total.
Round 3: Shape the Tree and Add the Trunk
Work this round in the front loops only. Ch 2, then sc in the next front loop. Single crochet once more, then work (hdc, dc, htr), tr, (htr, dc, hdc) to create a tree point. Single crochet in the next 5 stitches. Repeat this tree point pattern three more times around, spacing them evenly. Slip stitch to the top of ch 2 to join.
For the trunk: Change to Color B. In the same stitch where you just joined, work Ch 3, then 3 dc, then Ch 3, then slip stitch all in that one stitch. Fasten off Color B.
Round 4: Add the Snow Border
Change to Color C. This is important: join your yarn in the back loop of Round 2 at the marker you placed earlier, following the stitch where you last joined in Round 3. (Joining in the correct spot keeps your tree centered on the square.) Ch 3 (counts as a dc). Working in back loops only, work 2 dc in the next stitch. Then work *dc in the next stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch* and repeat from * until you reach the end of the round. Slip stitch to the top of ch 3 to join. You now have 36 dc total.
Round 5: Create the Corners
Ch 3, dc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch. Now work (2 dc + ch 2 + 2 dc) in the next stitch to create a corner. Continue around: *dc in the next 8 stitches, then (2 dc + ch 2 + 2 dc) in the next stitch* and repeat from * two more times. Dc in the last 5 stitches. Slip stitch to the top of ch 3 to join. You now have 48 dc total.
Round 6: Finish with Single Crochet
Ch 2, then sc in the next 4 stitches. Work 5 sc in the corner ch 2 space. Continue around: *sc in the next 12 stitches, then 5 sc in the corner space* and repeat from * two more times. Sc in the last 7 stitches. Slip stitch to the top of ch 2 to join. Fasten off. You now have 68 sc total.
Finishing Touches
Tie off and weave in all loose ends. Gently sew the triangle corners down or secure them with a small dab of hot glue for a polished look.

Make It Your Own
This is where your creativity shines. Add small buttons for ornaments, use puff paint for details, stitch on designs, or glue pom poms for a festive flair. Use a single square as a coaster, or sew several together for a holiday blanket or wall hanging.
