Turn your plain bottle into the cutest kitty around! This fun photo tutorial walks you through every step of making your very own Kitty Cat Bottle Cooler. It's a great project for crocheters with a little experience — and a seriously adorable result. 🐱
Skill Level: Easy to Intermediate

What You'll Need
- Yarn: 1 skein, 7 oz. medium worsted weight (size 4) acrylic yarn — I used Red Heart Super Saver Solids.
- Crochet Hook: Size G-6 / 4.25mm
- Tapestry Needle: For sewing the components together
- Hair elastic: For the top edge (used in Rnd 25)
- Scrap yarn: For marking rounds on the tail
- Black yarn or embroidery floss: For the pupil lines and whiskers
Gauge
Finished cooler measures approximately 6 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide.
2" × 2" = 7 rounds × 7 single crochets.
Abbreviations
Ch = chain | Slst = slip stitch | Sc = single crochet | Hdc = half double crochet | Dc = double crochet | Beg = beginning | Pm = place marker | Rnd = round
Step 1: Crochet the Base
We'll start from the bottom of the cooler and work our way up in the round.
Round 1: Make a magic circle. Ch3 (counts as a dc), make 9 dc into the circle. Join to the top of ch-3 with a slst. 10 dc total.
Round 2: Ch3 + dc in same st, 2 dc in next and in each stitch around. Join with a slst to top of ch-3. 20 dc total.
Round 3: Ch2 (counts as a sc) + 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next, *2 sc, 1 sc, repeat from * 8 more times to end of round. Join with a slst to top of ch-2. 30 sc total.
Step 2: Build the Body
Now we'll transition to working in the back loops to create a clean ridge, then work straight up to form the sides of the koozie.
Round 4: Ch1 + sc in same st, 1 sc in the back loops only of each sc around. Place a stitch marker at the end of each round from here on.
Rounds 5–24: Sc normally in each sc around. (Keep going — you've got this! These rounds build the height of the koozie.)
Step 3: Add the Elastic Edge
This round locks in a hair elastic to keep the cooler snug on your bottle.
Round 25: Grab your hair elastic and sc into the back loops of the previous round AND into the elastic ring at the same time. To join, slst into the next sc front loop from Round 24.
Step 4: Make the Ears
The ears are worked directly into the front loops left over from Round 24 — no sewing needed!
Ears: Working in the sc front loops only from Round 24 — Ch5, sc into 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in last ch, skip next 2 sc front loops, slst in next, sc in each of next 3. In the next front loop, make a slst + ch5, sc into 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in last ch, skip next 2 sc front loops, slst into next. Fasten off.
Step 5: Crochet the Face
Now for the fun part — bringing your kitty to life! 🐾
Mouth: Ch5, 5 dc into 4th ch from hook, 6 dc into the first ch, slst to top of beg ch-3 to join. Fasten off. Sew the mouth 4 rounds below the ears.
Eyes (make 2): Make a magic circle, ch1, 5 sc into circle, slst to first sc to join. Fasten off. Sew one eye 2 rounds below each ear. Sew a black pupil line in the center of each eye.
Nose: Ch3, sc into first ch. Fasten off. Sew the nose to the top of the mouth, then sew whiskers on both sides.
Step 6: Make the Tail
Every kitty needs a tail! This one is worked as a small tube.
Tail: Ch7, slst to first ch to form a ring, sc in each ch around. Use a piece of scrap yarn to mark the end of each round. Continue to sc in each sc for 20 rounds. Fasten off, leaving long tail ends for sewing. Sew the tail to the back of the cooler.
You're Done! 🎉
